... und vor einer Stunde, recht dramatisch: "... aaand a glacial surge (jökulhlaup) from Vatnajökull glacier [has begun.] It's when volcanic activity under the glacier melts the ice and the water collects in a caldera under the ice cap, until it all bursts out at once. That's your cue to drive like hell out of the way.

From the newspaper: "Storm and Blizzard Warning in Iceland - The Icelandic Meteorological Office has issued a warning about a possible storm and blizzard across Iceland next weekend. Already tomorrow a forceful wind from the east and north is expected to blow over the entire country.
On Saturday, a northeastern storm with considerable snowfall is forecast on the eastern and northern coast and even stormier conditions in the highlands. The road conditions can therefore become difficult within a short time span and in many parts of the country traveling will not be advised.
On Sunday the storm is expected to subside and by Sunday afternoon the weather is likely to have calmed in most regions."

In 21 Tagen zu Fuss und im Boot durch Island, von Nord nach Süd, mit 40 Kilo auf dem Rücken.
Zu abenteuerlich, zu ungemütlich, zu anstrengend - kurz: zu abschreckend für mich.
Ich bin nicht der Trekker, der Abenteurer.
Teile davon - ja, bestimmt; doch dann benötige ich spätestens nach ein, zwei Tagen stabile Wände und ein sicheres Dach über dem Kopf.

Christopher Herwig und Alastair Humphreys haben das gemacht - die dabei entstandenen Photos und den Kurzfilm kann ich durchaus geniessen. Sehr sogar. Sie zeigen vieles über Island - das wirkliche, rauhe, schöne Island, abseits von (auch sehr schönen!) Postkartenbildern mit Geysiren, Pferden, Gletscherlagune und Wasserfällen.
