Leider war a.more.s da schon weg - oder genauer: Weil die Arbeit wieder rief und er noch immer Teil eines vertraglich gebundenen Arbeitsprozesses ist, MUSSTE er leider abreisen, bevor die Filmcrew mit den zwei Models hier eintraf. Hier, in sehr vertrauter Umgebung. Wäre interessant geworden.

... Das Essen war lecker. Ich hatte Lamm mit Kartoffeln - megafein! Zum Dessert 5 Kugeln Glace! LOL! Jetzt sitzen wir - warm verpackt - wieder im Auto & warten, bis der rechte Autoscheinwerfer repariert ist. An einer Tankstelle probieren sie es zu reparieren - vor unseren Augen laufen Männer & Frauen im T-Shirt rum!!!! Bald sind wir im warmen Bett. Beim Essen haben ich und R. zusammen so ein Spiel gespielt ... R. hat sich wie ein kleines Kind benommen! Na ja.

Das Frühstück war wieder einmal wunderbar. Ich spielte noch Nintendo, und F. liest. Dann gehe ich zu R., und auch ein bisschen ins Internet auf seinem Apfel. Kristín, die Journalistin, sollte um 13 Uhr kommen, und wir machten uns dann parat. Als sie kam, stellte sie uns zuerst noch ihren Sohn und seine Freundin vor (ich kann mir die Namen nicht merken). Jetzt sitzen wir im Auto (ohne Musik) und fahren ihnen hinterher. Das Ziel der Fahrt soll ihre Farm sein. (...)

Þá er komið að því. Þann 30. ágúst ætlum við loksins að taka stóra skrefið og ganga í hjónaband.
Athöfnin fer fram klukkan 17.00 í Árneskirkju í Trékyllisvík í Árneshreppi og að henni lokinni verður haldin veisla á Hótel Djúpavík.

The North Sea is one brutal place. It can make a ship that displaces tens of thousands of tons bob around like a rubber ducky. Subsequently, the Icelandic Coast Guard has the job of operating daily in this horrific environment, and they are damn good at it too.

Operating a pair of Super Puma helicopters and a Bombardier Dash-8, the air arm of the Icelandic Coast Guard is very small but the territory they cover is huge. As a result of this predicament, their Super Puma crews see a ton of action, and rarely is it under flat water and unlimited visibility conditions. Check out the wild video below of one of their two Pumas pulling off an elaborate dance of timing, intuition and bravery.

And what do this year's prize photographs tell us about Icelandic society?

Firstly, the fact that the photo of the year is a portrait image is a welcome change, and that the portrait features a foreign woman that most Icelanders are not familiar with, and will never in their lives meet with. Who is this woman? What is she thinking? What is she doing here?

For those that do not recall her from the news, all these questions no doubt spring forth and each will attempt individual answers, or resolve to leave the questions unanswered. And now that tourism in Iceland has increased to the degree it has, perhaps there is a sense in which the photograph is symbolic - a foreigner has arrived to visit Iceland; amiable and appears as a warm person, but simultaneously she seems a little surprised by what she beholds, and is there a trace of agony in the contours of her face, issuing from somewhere deep in her expression?

What might be the reason for that?

In fact, that does have an answer: She went lost in the West Fjords for two days, but she was fortunately found, alive and well. She arrived, got lost, and reemerged. No wonder the expression affords so many interpretations.
